Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny G. Plate commended the attendance of delegates at the second meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) in Yogyakarta.

"Welcome to Yogyakarta. I am pleased to welcome you all to the Digital Economy Working Group meeting in Yogyakarta, Indonesia," the minister stated here on Tuesday.

On that occasion, Plate also lauded the delegates, who had attended the forum virtually.

The DEWG is part of the Indonesian G20 Sherpa Track. The working group originated with the formation of the G20 Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) in 2017 during the German G20 presidency.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is in charge of the DEWG forum during Indonesia's G20 presidency. The second meeting of the forum is being held in Yogyakarta on May 17-19, 2022.

The session was chaired directly by DEWG Chair Mira Tayyiba, who also serves as secretary-general of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, and G20 DEWG Alternate Chair Dedy Permadi.

In his remarks, Plate told the delegates about a Javanese philosophy -- Memayu Hayuning Bawono -- which means every human being is trusted to add to the world's beauty.

"With this philosophy, I hope we would be able to work hand in hand to make the world a better place, especially through digital technology," he remarked.

The minister expressed optimism that the event would offer a memorable experience for the delegates.

He also expressed optimism that the second meeting of the G20 DEWG would generate the best agreement.

The G20 DEWG second meeting in Yogyakarta was attended by delegates from the United States, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the European Union.

Meanwhile, the meeting was attended virtually by delegates from Canada, China, Mexico, South Africa, and Russia.

The DEWG meeting was also attended by the representatives of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
