In terms of economic cooperation, our efforts are focused on several areas – development of institutional mechanisms, investments, manufacturing industry, financial sector, logistics, and healthcare
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Indonesia Daniyar Sarekenov emphasized that in terms of economic cooperation with Indonesia, his country will focus on investment and other several areas.

"In terms of economic cooperation, our efforts are focused on several areas – development of institutional mechanisms, investments, manufacturing industry, financial sector, logistics, and healthcare," the ambassador noted in a special interview with Antara here on Friday (May 13).

Ambassador Sarekenov remarked that the main mechanism for streamlining the realization of economic potential is the Kazakh-Indonesian Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation, which was established back in 2013. Couple of measures are planned for intensification of the Joint Commission’s working groups' activities this year.

"We are planning to form an Indonesian business delegation to visit Kazakhstan until the end of this year in order to find ways to bring business circles and SMEs of the two countries into permanent contact, to study the possibility of establishing joint ventures, and realizing investment projects," he stated.

The ambassador also noted that the manufacturing industry was one of the promising areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.

To this end, he said, they are still interacting with Indonesian companies to explore the possibilities of joint development of projects in the production of building materials, agriculture, and light industries, as well as in the extraction of rare and rare earth metals, and production of petroleum products, including LPG.

In the field of financial cooperation, the ambassador said they are paying attention to the platform of the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC), which currently plays a pivotal role in positioning itself as a global center for business and finance, connecting the economies of Central Asia, Caucasus, EAEU, West China, Mongolia, the Middle East, and Europe. The Islamic (Shariyah) banking, financial technologies, innovation incubators, and startups are the perspective fields of interaction.

Sarekenov said another focus is being drawn on the development of logistics to utilize the Kazakhstani terminal in the Chinese port of Lianyungang for the transportation of Indonesian goods through Kazakhstan further to the Central Asian, Eurasian, and European markets, for which active discussions are being held.

"We are working to form a test container train for the transportation of Indonesian goods," Ambassador Sarekenov explained.

In the field of healthcare, Kazakhstan is also still exploring the possibility of joint production of vaccines. Contributing to the global herd immunity, Kazakhstan was among the first 10 countries in the world to develop its own vaccine known as “QazVac”, he stated.

"A lot of work is being done in close interaction with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. We are trying to consolidate Kazakh and Indonesian exporters and entrepreneurs on one web-platform for operational communication, publishing information about products, investment projects, collecting orders, and calculating logistics routes, among others," the ambassador remarked.
