The value of mutual cooperation is believed to inspire and be the key for delegates to collaborate towards a better and more sustainable education for all
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim highlighted the role of mutual cooperation as the basis for transforming the quality of Indonesian education here on Thursday.

In a written statement, Makarim explained that in addition to being the guiding principle of the breakthrough Merdeka Belajar or Freedom in Learning program, mutual cooperation is also at the heart of the G20's priority agenda in the education sector.

"The value of mutual cooperation is believed to inspire and be the key for delegates to collaborate towards a better and more sustainable education for all," he remarked.

He delivered the statement during the second meeting of the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG), which was held from May 18–19, 2022.

"I strongly believe that mutual cooperation is the key to transformation to create quality education for all," he emphasized.

Through various breakthroughs in the Merdeka Belajar program, several efforts for learning recovery have been carried out, which include the Merdeka Curriculum, National Assessment, and the Teacher as National Drivers Program.

Moreover, for Indonesia's G20 Presidency, the EdWG has set four priority agendas: quality education for all, digital technology in education, solidarity and partnership, and the future of work after COVID-19.

As part of the push for quality education for all, the government has offered some programs such as the more socially equitable school operational assistance (BOS) and the expansion of the types of scholarships given to students, Makarim noted.

"The ministry has made many breakthroughs such as the Merdeka Mengajar (Freedom in Teaching) platform. Unlike the common perspective that focuses on online learning applications, the platform designed by the ministry focuses on empowering and supporting school principals and teachers to optimize their potential," he elaborated.

EdWG, which the Education Ministry is chairing, is a G20 working group that discusses issues regarding education. The group’s first meeting was held in Yogyakarta from March 16–18.

Through the 2022 G20 EdWG, Indonesia has invited all member nations and related organizations to the discussion table along with working groups or engagement groups such as Business20, Youth20, and Think20.
