DJP's Director of Assistance, Services, and Public Relations, Neilmaldrin Noor, stated that the cooperation agreement is a follow up on earlier agreements initiated between both institutions in 2013 and renewed in 2018.
"The agreement is the addendum of the earlier cooperation agreement signed on November 2, 2018, to further data integration between the two directorate generals, particularly on the (integration of) personal identity number as a tax identification number," Noor noted in the official statement here on Friday.
He explained that the addendum aims to fulfil clauses of Law No. 7 of 2021 on the Harmonization of Taxation Regulation that dictates personal identity numbers should be used as the tax identification number of Indonesian taxpayers.
The addendum is also to satisfy clauses of Presidential Regulation No. 83 of 2021 that instructs the authority to record personal identity numbers and/or the taxpayer identification number in public services and integrate and update population data with the taxation database, the agency's director noted.
Through the addendum, the two directorate generals will integrate the population data and the taxation database to improve services for taxpayers to access and receive taxation services as well as to realize the Indonesia One Data Policy, Noor stated.
He also expounded that the integration of population and taxation data will boost the government's efforts to ensure tax compliance among residents, as the population data would be used by several government institutions that could cross-check and verify the information with one another.

The DJP director then commended the sound cooperation between the Directorate General of Taxes and the Directorate General of Population and Civil Records.
"We highly praise the support and cooperation offered by the Directorate General of Population and Civil Records that has proceeded well so far. We also hope that the synergy between the two directorate generals would become stronger in the future to realize a better, fair, and prosperous Indonesia by assuring our tax revenue," Noor remarked.
