Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Three Indonesian warships (KRIs) have been dispatched to the waters around Bali Island to secure the implementation of the 7th Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) in Badung district, Bali.

"We have deployed three KRIs, namely KRI Sultan Hasanuddin, KRI Keris, and KRI Surabaya. KRI Surabaya is on stand-by to be deployed anytime for the activity," Commander of Fleet Command (Koarmada) II Rear Admiral Iwan Isnurwanto informed here on Wednesday.

In addition, the navy has prepared a helicopter at the Nusa Dua area for emergency purposes as well as sea rider ships to secure the event.

"The helicopter will be used to anticipate any emergency matter. Meanwhile, our sea rider ships are also readied to be dispatched to every required location,” he added.

Isnurwanto, who was accompanied by the Commander of the Marine Combat Forces of the Koarmada II, Commodore Deny Prasetyo, said that around 550 Indonesian naval soldiers have been deployed for securing the international event.

"We will cover and close the maritime area around the venue of the 7th Session of the GPDRR, thus no sea vehicles can enter the area," he informed.

In addition to securing the maritime areas, the Indonesian navy has asked soldiers at the ports and the naval base to monitor the areas to ensure the smooth implementation of the international event.

"By securing the sea and the port, we expect that nothing will disturb the implementation of the 7th Session of the GPDRR. We are committed to succeeding the event," the commander remarked.

The 7th GPDRR themed "From Risk to Resilience: Towards Sustainable Development for All in a COVID-19 Transformed World" is being held from May 23 to 28, 2022.

The biennial international forum aims to monitor, evaluate, as well as discuss new methods for disaster mitigation that can serve as the basis for preparing a disaster mitigation action plan for the next two years.
