Data will be transformed into information, information will become analysis, and analysis will become the basis for formulating strategies and policies," Jati stated during a forum themed "Data Challenges and Solutions for Disaster Risk Management
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Deputy for Systems and Strategies at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Raditya Jati emphasized that data collection plays a central role in formulating strategies and policies to build disaster resilience.

As quoted in a press release on Friday, the deputy explained that strengthening data collection is part of the disaster resilience-building strategy contained in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan.

"Data will be transformed into information, information will become analysis, and analysis will become the basis for formulating strategies and policies," Jati stated during a forum themed "Data Challenges and Solutions for Disaster Risk Management," which is part of the 2022 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) event at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on Thursday (May 26, 2022).

Jati remarked that Indonesia had owned the One Data Indonesia, One Map Indonesia, and One Disaster Data Indonesia (SDBI) platform to support data management, including data on disasters.

He highlighted that the government is using data from local to national levels that had been incorporated into digital platforms as the basis for formulating strategies in policies.

He cited as an example that implementation of the public activity restrictions (PPKM) policy to curb COVID-19 transmission in Indonesia was formulated on the basis of the result of data and information analysis incorporated into digital platforms.

However, he admitted that up until now, challenges were still encountered in the efforts to meet the need for comprehensive data, such as inadequate funding, limited access to the internet, and the quality of data reported.

The deputy highlighted the importance of improving the management of disaster data and information in an effort to provide accurate data as a reference in formulating policies.
