"Optimizing facilities and infrastructure at Indonesian airports and existing human resources is a must to enhance their function as core elements in defending Indonesian airspace's sovereignty and security," Martono said at a seminar broadcast by Airmen TV Dispenau’s YouTube channel, which was accessed from here on Monday.
The seminar entitled "Revitalization of Indonesian Airports as an Air Power Element to Support National Airspace Security" was hosted by A-59 Air Force Command and Staff School.
Martono thanked the government for passing Law No. 23 of 2019 on National Resources Management for National Defence Purposes and Government Regulation No. 3 of 2021, which further details the law's implementation.
The two laws have provided a legal basis to manage national resources for airspace security and defence purposes, he said.

The two laws would also augment the Indonesian Air Force's effort to protect national sovereignty through the provision of military reserves and other air force reserves, particularly through the utilization of airports as a crucial air power element for the country, he explained.
"Hence, airports, as a strategic facility to mobilize national resources, must be prepared comprehensively," Martono remarked.
Besides, comprehensive preparation for airports will also reduce errors committed by the Air Force and the civil aviation authority, particularly in functions that the two institutions share, he added.
"We aim to achieve synergy and collaboration consistent with what the law mandates," he remarked.
