…this industry (batik) is prioritized for development because it is considered to have great leverage in boosting national economic growth.Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Leading industries such as batik and handicrafts hopefully would continue to contribute to post-pandemic economic recovery, Head of the Industry Ministry's Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) Doddy Rahadi remarked during a customer gathering at the Yogyakarta Batik and Crafts Center (BBKB) here on Tuesday.
"Indonesia's leading industry in batik and handicraft is expected to contribute to the post-pandemic national economic recovery," Rahadi stated.
Efforts to contribute to economic recovery can be made by increasing productivity and meeting product quality standards in order to make products more competitive at the national and global levels.

Moreover, based on the Industry Ministry's records, the batik industry sector, which is dominated by small and medium industries (IKM), can absorb a workforce of more than 200 thousand and is divided into around 47 thousand business units spread across 101 centers in Indonesia.
"Therefore, this industry is prioritized for development because it is considered to have great leverage in boosting national economic growth," Rahadi said.
According to the Ministry of Industry, the number of handicraft business units in Indonesia has currently reached more than 700 thousand, and together, they are absorbing more than 1.32 million workers.

Meanwhile, head of Yogyakarta BBKB, Hendra Yetty, said that one of the main requirements for optimizing industrial competitiveness is boosting synergy and collaboration, including through activities such as the BBKB customer gathering event, which was organized by the Ministry of Industry.
The offline BBKB customer gathering activity was attended by 250 participants from government agencies/institutions in the industrial sector, the National Development Planning Agency, academics, companies, associations, and industry players from various regions who have become partners and potential partners for BBKB services.
"I hope this customer meeting can be an important momentum to strengthen the synergy between BBKB and industry players and related stakeholders," Yetty said.
