Jakarta (ANTARA) - The education endowment fund is expected to reach at least Rp120 trillion for the period from 2010 to 2022, the Finance Ministry has said.

Director General of Separated State Wealth at the ministry Meirijal Nur said that the government has allocated Rp20 trillion toward the education endowment fund, but it is yet to be fully disbursed. Meanwhile, Rp99.1 trillion has been utilized during the 2010–2021 period.

“So, if you add up (the total) as of December 31, 2021, if all the 2022 allocations are disbursed, then the total endowment fund for education managed by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education will be Rp120 trillion," he informed here on Friday.

Of the Rp99.1 trillion used as of 2021, Rp81.11 trillion went toward education endowments, Rp7.99 trillion toward research endowments, Rp7 trillion toward university endowments, and Rp3 trillion toward cultural affairs endowments.

Under Presidential Decree No. 111 of 2021 regarding Endowment Funds in the Education Sector, the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) has been designated the fund's manager.

It manages endowments for education, research, university, and cultural affairs.

The government has committed to allocating the education endowment fund since 2010 in order to improve national human resources, Nur informed.

"We expect that Indonesian human resources will (have better) qualifications; and, of course, with (competent) human resources, all the activities we do will be of very good quality and result in prosperity for all," he said.

The total endowment fund in the education sector itself has increased every year, starting from Rp1 trillion in 2010, Rp3.6 trillion in 2011, Rp10.6 trillion in 2012, to Rp15.6 trillion in 2013.

It climbed further to Rp20.6 trillion in 2016, Rp31 trillion in 2017, Rp46 trillion in 2018, Rp51 trillion in 2019, Rp70 trillion in 2020, and Rp99 trillion in 2021, and is expected to reach Rp120 trillion in 2022.

The government has committed to providing an additional endowment for the education sector in 2023.

Finance director at LPDP, Agus Hartono, said that from 2013 until 2021, his administration provided scholarships to 29,872 Indonesians from 34 provinces.

A total of 15,631 scholarship recipients are now employed in various sectors, with 62.8 percent of them working in the public sector as academics, researchers, state civil servants, professional employees, and even, in the national defense or police force.

The remaining 35 percent are working in the private sector and 2.2 percent in the social affairs sector.
