We are determined to improve under the legal umbrella of Law Number 11 of 2022…
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali on Monday inaugurated an event to disseminate information on Law Number 11 of 2022 regarding Sports to ensure that all stakeholders implement the regulation properly, thereby benefiting the community.

Speaking at the launch of the event here on Monday, he said that the law accommodates many changes in keeping with the current developments in the sports sector, for instance, the establishment of sports tourism, the increase in the sports achievement target, as well as the growth of the sports industry.

The issuance of the Sports Law embodies the spirit of implementing the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON), he added.

Hence, the dissemination of the Sports Law has not only become the responsibility of the Youth and Sports Ministry, but also all stakeholders in the sports sector, including the chairpersons of the sports associations included in the DBON, he said.

The DBON has made 14 Olympic sports disciplines a priority: athletics, badminton, rock climbing, artistic gymnastics, weightlifting, bicycle racing, archery, shooting, swimming, rowing, karate, taekwondo, wushu, and pencak silat.

In addition, there are five priority Paralympics sports: para-badminton, para-powerlifting, para-swimming, para-table tennis, and para-athletics.

"We are determined to improve under the legal umbrella of Law Number 11 of 2022 (regarding sports) as well as Presidential Regulation Number 86 (of 2021) concerning the DBON. We are starting to implement them gradually, thus we will not be left behind in sports development,” the minister said.

Through the application of the regulations, Indonesia can prepare to reach the top five at the 2044 Olympics, he added.

The dissemination of the Sports Law will be held in several provinces in collaboration with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), as well as a number of universities across Indonesia.

"We expect that the dissemination can increase and expedite Indonesia’s sports achievements," chairperson of KOI, Raja Sapta Oktohari, stated.

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) passed the Sports Bill — which later became Law Number 11 of 2022 — to replace Law Number 3 of 2005 concerning the National Sports System on February 15, 2022.

The bill was approved by 331 participants at the plenary session of the House. The Sports Law was promulgated on March 16.
