Jakarta (ANTARA) - Every workshop in Jakarta is necessitated to have motorized vehicle emission test equipment as a complementary feature for customers, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Office Syafrin Liputo stated.

"Every workshop is required to have an emission test tool. Every vehicle that has been serviced regularly must undergo the emission test that is in accordance with the service components," Liputo noted at the inauguration of the Motor Vehicle Testing Management Unit (UP PKB) here, Tuesday.

According to Liputo, 250 parking location points have collaborated with his side to conduct independent emission tests for motorbikes and cars, whose number would continue to grow.

For licensing issues, Liputo remarked that both official and independent workshops must hold a permit from the Jakarta Provincial Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service (DPMPTSP) Office.

Earlier, the Jakarta Transportation Office, along with the Jakarta Environment Office, had conducted massive emission tests at several locations since 2021.

Liputo noted that motorists unable to pass the test will be charged a disincentive rate of parking fees of Rp7 thousand per hour.

Furthermore, he explained that the initial disincentives, in the form of parking fees, will later be imposed in the form of sanctions in accordance with new regulations based on Law No. 11 of 2020 on Job Creation.

Meanwhile, regional secretary of Jakarta, Marullah Matali, remarked that Jakarta deems it an urgent matter to conduct emission tests due to the increase in population.

Emission test for motorized vehicles is aimed at minimizing the greenhouse gas effect, he stated.

"Jakarta has an important issue in lowering gas carbon. Of course, (on account of) Jakarta, with its population density and a large number of operating motor vehicles, we have an urgent matter in doing that early," Matali stressed.
