Matraman Station can be easily accessible for commuter service users, especially (from/to) Kampung Melayu, Senen Station, Cempaka Putih, and the surrounding areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State railway firm's subsidiary PT KAI Commuter conducted the first day of operational trials in Matraman Station, East Jakarta, along with the Ministry of Transportation and KAI's Jakarta Operational Area 1.

"Matraman Station can be easily accessible for commuter service users, especially (from/to) Kampung Melayu, Senen Station, Cempaka Putih, and the surrounding areas," Vice President Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Anne Purba, stated here on Friday.

Purba remarked that Matraman Station serves commuter train trips of Cikarang - Jatinegara - Manggarai -Tanah Abang - Kampung Bandan.

According to Purba, Matraman Station functions as a shelter station where passengers can opt to get off the train as well as anticipate crowding at Manggarai Station.

"(This is) because usually, (passengers) who get off at Manggarai Station do not transit. Hence, passengers can disembark at Matraman," Purba remarked.

She noted that Matraman Station is expected to serve about two thousand passengers per day.

Meanwhile, earlier, the Directorate General of Railways had proceeded to inspect the operational readiness of Matraman Station before commencement of the pick-up and drop-off of passengers.

Head of the Jakarta - Banten Regional Railway Engineering Center, Rode Paulus, explained that trial activities of Matraman Station were being conducted carefully to ensure its readiness before it became operational.

"We do not want to be careless in operating Matraman Station and want to guarantee that supporting facilities at this station are ready to serve passengers," Paulus stated.

Paulus said that during monitoring, his side had paid attention to the escalator and elevator that connects the concourse area with the platforms.

He earlier noted that Matraman Station would commence testing passenger boarding and disembarkation schemes starting from Thursday, June 16.

"The location of this station is very strategic, between Manggarai Station and Jatinegara Station, so we hope its existence can ease accessibility for the surrounding communities," Paulus remarked.
