Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Bintang Puspayoga, during the B20 Side Event: Women in Business Action Council, on Friday, highlighted the government's efforts to develop the skills of women entrepreneurs.

During the event, themed "Accelerating the Inclusion of Women MSMEs in the Global Economy," the minister noted that these efforts encompassed trainings and support related to business digitalization, financial literacy, and digital literacy.

Business 20 (B20) is one of the engagement groups within Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency in the form of a dialogue forum with the global business community.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

The government had also unveiled the Inclusive Finance National Strategy (SNKI) for women in June 2020 in an effort to provide financial support to women-owned small businesses and women entrepreneurs, she noted.

Research shows the importance of empowering women for the advancement of the world's economy, she pointed out.

"McKinsey Global Institute reported that the global GDP (gross domestic product) will increase by US$12 trillion if women can be empowered," she stated.

To this end, Puspayoga urged all parties to empower women as part of the efforts to drive the people's economy.

During the G20 Side Event on Friday, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that bolstering women's financial inclusion will reduce the national poverty rate, so that Indonesia can achieve its target of being free from poverty in 2024.

The minister cautioned that if the significant impacts of COVID-19 on women were not handled well, it would reduce the global GDP to US$1 trillion by 2030.

However, the world's GDP can be increased by taking actions to improve gender equality, including by investing in education, family planning, mothers' health, as well as digital inclusion and finance, she noted.
