Jakarta (ANTARA) - A reak art group from Bandung District, West Java, has been invited to perform at the Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark scheduled on June 26-July 2, 2022.

Eight representatives of a Sundanese reak art group, Juarta Putra, will join in the music event that will host world-renowned musicians, such as Post Malone, Dua Lipa, TLC, The Smile, and The Strokes.

"It is a (matter of) extraordinary pride (that) Juarta Putra's reak art has the opportunity to stage Indonesian traditions, especially West Java's, at the Roskilde Music Festival held in Denmark along with world legendary artists," head of the Juarta Putra reak art group, Anggi Nugraha, stated here on Thursday.

According to Nugraha's statement, Roskilde Festival is the largest music event in Denmark and one of the largest in Europe. The non-profit festival was started by two students in 1971 which, until now, continues to generate millions of dollars in donations for culture, music, and humanity.

Juarta Putra will perform on the same day as The Strokes, St. Vincent, Haim, and Kings of Convenience on July 2. They will collaborate with Denmark cultural movement musicians, who belong to a group called Snöleoparden, as well as with Luigi from Italy.

Nugraha explained that reak is a Sundanese art that thrives among agrarian communities, especially the agricultural community that grows rice.

Initially, reak art was an accompaniment to the "helaran reumpak jarami, ampih pare", a ceremony performed when farmers move rice from the rice field to the storage area or home.

The musical instrument used by Juarta Putra is a set of dogdog, comprising tilingtit, tong, brung, bangplak, bedug, kecrek, and tarompet.

The reak art performance also presents barongan and flat horse (kuda lumping) dancers, who usually dance in a state of possession or trance.
