Cilacap, Central Java (ANTARA) - The Cilacap District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Central Java, conducted an assessment of the floods and landslides that struck several villages due to heavy rains on Sunday (June 26).

"Based on our temporary data, the floods hit nine villages and landslides hit two villages," acting head of Cilacap BPBD Wijonardi stated on Monday.

Flooding due to heavy rains impacted the villages of Citepus and Prapagan in Jeruklegi Sub-district; villages of Cisuru, Cipari, and Ciserang in Cipari Sub-district; Tinggarjaya, Sidareja, and Gunungreja in Sidareja Sub-district; and Cikedondong Village in Bantarsari Sub-district.

Meanwhile, a landslide hit Binangun's Neighborhood 02 Hamlet 03 (RT 02 RW 03), Tayem Village, Karangpucung Sub-district, as well as Cikondang's Neighborhood 01 Hamlet 01 (RT 01 RW 01), and Neighborhood 02 Hamlet 01 (RT 02 RW 01), Panimbang Village, Cimanggu Sub-district.

"Particularly with regard to the flooding, we are still collecting further data," Wijonardi remarked.

The landslide that hit Karangpucung Sub-District resulted in 15 meters of a residential road to be covered with avalanche materials of three-meter thickness, hindering the movement of two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles.

In Cikondang RT 01 RW 01, Cimanggu, a resident's kitchen was hit by an avalanche from a 30-meter-high cliff, according to Wijonardi.

The landslide also damaged the backside of another resident's house in Cikondang RT 02 RW 01, he remarked.

"Mrs. Watinem (67) suffered minor injuries in the form of bruises on the legs, thighs, and cheeks because she had been buried by a landslide reaching as high as the victim's chest," he stated.

Regarding the potential for heavy rains, he urged the public to remain alert to the possibility of hydrometeorological disasters.

"The state of emergency alert is always activated during hydrometeorological incidents, whether there will be a partial emergency status per regional or communal event. We need a quick review, (and) the quick response team has come down since the start of the incident, and until now, we have continued to collect data," Wijonardi explained.
