Depok, West Java (ANTARA) - The development of digital talent in Indonesia must be improved in order to strengthen the sharia economy, Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has said.

"The world is facing challenges in the development of information technology, therefore digital transformation efforts are needed; digital talent development is a must," he affirmed at the "Sharing Happiness Towards Talent Development & Digital Transformation for the Sharia Economy" seminar here on Thursday.

The development of digital talent and the transformation of the sharia digital economy could strengthen the sharia economy, he added.

"This will strengthen the role and increase the potential for the development of the sharia economy in Indonesia as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world," he remarked.

According to Qoumas, digital talent and digital transformation are vital for strengthening Indonesia's role on the global stage.

Speaking at the seminar, director of government affairs at Huawei Indonesia, Yenty Joman, said she is optimistic that digital technology would become the main driving force for community empowerment.

"Technology can strengthen the capacity of organizations and individuals to create more mature ecosystems," she added.

To improve the quality of Indonesia's digital talents, since 2020, the company has been collaborating with the government, academia, industries, and other stakeholders to train 100 thousand digital talents by 2025.

"Currently, more than 60 thousand Indonesian talents have received training on the latest ICT technologies," she added.

Joman said that technology can also encourage innovators and academics to take transformational leaps in the future.

"In this case, the sharia economic community can and must take full advantage of technology to rebuild the strength of the sharia economy so that it becomes a solid backbone for the acceleration of the national economic recovery," she remarked.

She said that President Joko Widodo launched the vision of golden Indonesia to make the nation among the world's top five economic powers by 2045.

"We have strong hopes that the business ecosystem in Indonesia, including the sharia economy, will soon advance on the fast track to digitalization and will support the realization of the President's grand vision," she remarked.
