We believe that showcasing national cultural and traditional values through digital platforms would inspire pride in and love for Indonesian culture as well as reinforce our identity as a nation rich in cultural values and heritage," the director general of cultural affairs at the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, Hilmar Farid, noted in a press conference with SnackVideo on Thursday.
This short video competition was hosted on the SnackVideo platform, on July 11-31, through a campaigh titled #LebihBaikLagi (Be Better) that encourages the creation of videos that are educative, positive, and rich in national cultural values.
"The collaboration in the video-making campaign titled #LebihBaikLagi brings up noble Indonesian values, such as integrity, work ethos, and spirit of collaboration," Farid added.
On the first day of the campaign, there were some 6,600 short video uploads with that tag, and it was viewed by 4.4 million users. The videos touched upon values, such as sports, culinary arts, traditional arts, and culture.
Every creator presented his or her content based on creativity, with each including messages to the youth to preserve the cultural heritage for the next generation.
"Social media has an important role in encouraging people to respect national culture. This event is a part of our efforts to respect those, who constantly preserve and (disseminate information) of our tradition to the next generation and actively participated in spreading cultural values through creative and positive short video contents," he added.
The head of operation at Indonesia SnackVideo, Yugo Prabowo, stated that in order to participate, the short video must contain a positive message, be inspiring, and be relevant to the day-to-day lives of people.
"We also want to see positive narration from SnackVideo creators in conveying messages about culture preservation," Prabowo emphasized.
In order to join the campaign, users can also use the tags provided, which were separated for some categories, such as culture and tradition, sports, and culinary arts.
