FIBA is very happy that the (development of the) Indonesia Arena Stadium applies the sustainable energy (concept).
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has praised Indonesia over its preparations for hosting the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which have included the construction of the Indonesia Arena Stadium, which is currently 32-percent complete. The Indonesia Arena Stadium is a multifunctional stadium that will serve as the venue of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. It is located at the Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Jakarta.

All stakeholders have enjoyed very good coordination with FIBA, thus the federation is optimistic that Indonesia would become a successful host, secretary general of FIBA, Andreas Zagklis, said while reviewing the construction of the new stadium here on Thursday.

"I am happy that after having several discussions, I could see it (the progress of the preparations) directly and truly believe that the big event will be held (successfully) here," he remarked.

FIBA highly appreciates Indonesia's efforts to build a special multifunction indoor stadium to host the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he added.

“The Indonesian government, especially the FIBA Central Board member, who is also a minister (State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir), has greatly helped us in the discussion about the venue," the FIBA secretary general said.

He added that he was impressed with the design of the Indonesia Arena Stadium, which would have a capacity of 16 thousand spectators.

"FIBA is very happy that the (development of the) Indonesia Arena Stadium applies the sustainable energy (concept). Currently, the global community is paying attention to attempts for saving energy and utilizing renewable energy -- which (we) are realizing in the construction of sports buildings," he remarked.

Meanwhile, secretary general of the Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi), Nirmala Dewi, said that FIBA will continue to monitor the progress of the development of the new stadium.

"For Indonesia, it has become a motivation (to prepare well)," she remarked.

According to data from the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, as of July 2022, the development of the Indonesia Arena Stadium had reached 32 percent, exceeding the target for the period by 3.3 percent.

The multifunction indoor stadium is targeted to be completed in December 2022, that is, three months earlier than originally scheduled.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines, will take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023.
