Jakarta (ANTARA) - An official of the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry called to invite Indonesian children to participate in activities of the co-operatives sector to expedite the regeneration of human resources in that industry.

"As the successor of national development and the generation that will continue to realise national goals, it is appropriate that children must get the opportunity to participate in the development, including in the co-operatives sector," the ministry's Assistant Deputy of Child Rights Fulfillment, Information, and Participation, Endah Sri Rejeki, stated, as per the official statement received here, Friday.

Rejeki said that National Children's Day offers the right momentum to reaffirm the commitment of the government and people to protecting and fulfilling children's rights, including their rights to participate in social aspects.

Children must partake in various sectors of national development to allow the authority to conceive better policies and programs targeting better audiences, particularly in the co-operatives sector, the ministry's assistant deputy noted.

"Introducing the youth to co-operatives earlier is expected to draw their interest, and they will invite their peers (to know about co-operatives) in their own way," Rejeki remarked.

The official expressed dismay over the low level of interest about co-operatives in members of the youth generation despite the government constantly promoting co-operatives as the backbone of the national economy that has a major role in maintaining economic stability.

As co-operatives play a significant role in the national economy, the government is exerting utmost efforts to introduce co-operatives to the youth to ensure they will have successors in the future, she affirmed.

"One of the issues in the co-operatives sector relevant to children and teenagers is the low number of quality co-operatives managers and the youth interested in co-operatives activities. We hope the young generation can present their innovation and creativity to help co-operatives compete in the digital era now and in the future," Rejeki stated.
