Solo, C Java (ANTARA) - The Indonesian ASEAN Para Games Organizing Committee (INASPOC) on Thursday held a briefing for 1,300 volunteers selected for the 11th ASEAN Para Games, which will take place from July 30 to August 6, 2022.

Volunteers will have an important role in making the international sports event a success, deputy head of INASPOC for tournament administration, Bayu Rahardian, said here on Thursday.

The volunteers will be the face of the implementation of the 11th ASEAN Para Games since they will directly deal with the participants, he added.

During the briefing, volunteers were provided information on general matters regarding the manifestation of the theme of the event.

"Afterwards, the volunteers will be trained according to their respective divisions for three days. For instance, in the transportation division, the volunteers will (learn to) prepare for the arrival of the athletes at the hotel and the competition venue," the official informed.

Meanwhile, one of the volunteers, Septiana Fitri Maria (33), said that before volunteering for the 11th ASEAN Para Games, which will be hosted by Surakarta city, Central Java province, she had volunteered for the 2011 SEA Games in Jakarta.

"Hence, becoming a volunteer for the ASEAN Para Games is a new experience to be involved in the event for people with disabilities," she added.

Eleven countries are scheduled to participate in the event — Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Brunei, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia, which is hosting the event.

The participants will contest 14 sports—athletics, boccia, archery, judo, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, court tennis, chess, goalball, badminton, cerebral palsy football, basketball, and sitting volleyball.

Meanwhile, the venues for the competition comprise the Manahan Stadium (for athletics and tennis), sports hall of the Sports Faculty of Sebelas Maret University (boccia and goalball), Kota Barat Field (archery), Tirtonadi Convention Hall (judo and table tennis), and Solo Paragon Hotel (powerlifting), Semarang Jati Diri Sports Hall (swimming), Solo Dwangsa Hotel (chess), Edutorium Building of Muhammadiyah Surakarta University (badminton), stadium of Sebelas Maret University (cerebral palsy football), Sritex Sports Hall (basketball), as well as sports hall of Tunas Pembangunan University (sitting volleyball).
