Bandung (ANTARA) - The traditional market digitalization system could increase the number of orders from buyers to sellers by 56 folds, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan stated after surveying Pasar Baru Cicalengka here on Monday.

The digitalization system or online trade can facilitate transactions between sellers and buyers. This market digitalization system became one of the directives of President Joko Widodo to the Ministry of Trade.

Through digitalization, people can conduct transactions without having to go to the market themselves, he remarked.

Under the efforts to transform the traditional market, Hasan aims to have one million sellers to utilize the system. He expects that success stories of markets that utilize the digital system can spread to other markets.

Since 2021, several sellers in Pasar Baru Cicalengka have cooperated with the platform Tokopedia to conduct transactions digitally. The utilization of the system facilitates promotion to the people.

The minister recalled his experience of promoting his products through advertisement on television. Although his products sold well, he noted that the process was expensive.

He expects that the traditional market digitalization system can be implemented across Java Island for the first phase. If it is successful, then the system can be implemented in other islands.

Meanwhile, Co-Founder & Vice Chairman of Tokopedia Leontinus Alpha Edison noted that thus far, his company had cooperated with 10 traditional markets to implement the digitalization system.

All sellers can easily access the system. However, should they need assistance, the platform is ready to help in implementing the digital system.

He also noted that the number of orders increased by 56 folds and sales rose by 92 folds in 2021 as compared to that in 2020 due to the application of the digitalization system.
