Jakarta (ANTARA) - The city of Jakarta's bus rapid transit service TransJakarta has restarted the operation of its special pink TransJakarta buses for women passengers from Monday.

"Per today, July 25, 2022, TransJakarta has restarted the operation of the special pink bus reserved for women passengers. This bus had been in service earlier, but there were policy adjustments during the pandemic period," TransJakarta public relations officer Wibowo informed at the TransJakarta Pasar Baru bus stop here on Monday.

The operation of the pink TransJakarta buses reflects the company's commitment to providing safe and comfortable services for all passengers, particularly women, he said.

"The bus is reserved for women. The bus driver is a woman, as well as the bus assistant, also a woman," the company official noted.

The special pink buses will be first phased in on the Pasar Baru-Kalideres route (bus corridor 3), he informed, adding that eight pink buses are operating currently and more will be added gradually.

"We will surely monitor the TransJakarta bus operations with the need and the demand, and we will phase in more buses gradually," Wibowo said.

The pink buses will operate from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the fare set at Rp3,500 (US$0.23), which is no different from other TransJakarta buses, he added.

Earlier, TransJakarta corporate secretary division head Anang Rizkani Noor had said that the decision to restart the special pink bus services was one of the company's commitments to addressing sexual harassment in TransJakarta buses and facilities.

"Passengers' comfort is our main priority. The operation of the pink bus is one of TransJakarta's efforts to address sexual harassment issues in public transportation," Noor informed here on Sunday (July 24).
