According to the press release from the Presidential Secretariat received here, Kishida greeted the president in the front yard and this was followed by the official welcoming ceremony.
After listening to the national anthem of each country, Kishida called on Jokowi to check the line-up of honor guards before the delegates of each country introduced themselves, after which they headed to the meeting room for a bilateral meeting.
Kishida responded positively to Jokowi's visit to Japan.
"Welcome to Japan. I highly appreciate President Jokowi's arrival as G20 leader. Thank you as well for the warm welcome when I visited Indonesia last April," he stated.
He also expressed gratitude for the condolences extended by President Jokowi and Indonesian citizens over the passing away of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
"We will always fight for democracy and continue his work to improve good relations and cooperation with Indonesia," he affirmed.
President Jokowi, on the other hand, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended during his visit to Japan. He also offered his condolences over the demise of Prime Minister Abe.
"Representing Indonesian citizens, once more, I extend my deepest condolences over the passing away of ex-prime minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. He was a leader of Japan who made the relations between our countries as one of the forms of strategic partnership," he remarked.
On the occasion, he also thanked Japan for its support for Indonesia's G20 presidency.
"I hope Prime Minister Kishida attends the G20 Summit, later in Bali, in November," Jokowi stated.
After the meeting concluded, the two walked to the grand hall in the Japanese Prime Minister Office to give a press statement together.
Attendees at the event comprised Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, State Secretary Minister Pratikno, State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Ambassador of Indonesia to Japan Heri Akhmadi.
