Jakarta (ANTARA) - Science20 (S20), as part of the Indonesian G20 Presidency, is expected to provide recommendations based on science and technology for supporting global economic recovery.

Deputy for coordination of international economic cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, made the remarks on the second day of the S20 pre-summit meeting, accessed from here on Thursday.

"I really appreciate the S20 engagement group who are present, who can give policy recommendations based on science and technology, in the framework of supporting the global recovery process," Pambudi said.

Science20 (S20) is an outreach group meeting initiated by the German G20 Presidency in 2017. It is a forum for researchers and scientists from G20 countries to gather and discuss science-based solutions to support global health improvement.

Pambudi, who is also the co-sherpa of the Indonesian G20 presidency, said health is one of the current global problems and strategic steps need to be carried out to anticipate future health problems.

According to him, scientists need to be involved in formulating studies to support the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, S20 is expected to produce policies on strengthening the resilience of the global health system.

"Based on our latest sherpa meeting, we learn that 80 percent of the members hope that the resilience of the health system can be done, and anticipatory steps for facing (possible) next pandemics can come from scientific studies," Pambudi explained.

He expressed the hope that S20 will draft a consolidation of communiqués as part of its recommendation for G20 leaders for the G20 Summit that will be held in Bali in November 2022.

One of the global actions to recover from the pandemic is COVID-19 vaccination, so G20 member countries must collaborate in realizing it, he added.
