Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government's commitments under the Family Planning 2030 program will serve as a reference for strengthening services under the family planning and reproductive health programs, according to the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN).

"Indonesia is committed to continuing to realize quality family planning (KB) and reproductive health services," BKKBN head Hasto Wardoyo said at the launch of the Family Planning 2030 program here on Monday.

The provision of quality family planning and reproductive health services for the community will be intensified through health services that are built evenly and sustainably for all people, including those living in remote areas, he added.

Through the ten commitments contained in the Family Planning 2030 program, various achievements in Indonesia's population indicators are expected to be maintained, or targets are expected to be achieved, by ensuring that every woman has access to family planning services.

One of the achievements of Family Planning 2020 was the realization of a total fertility rate (TFR) of 2.24 percent, which met the set target.

Indonesia also managed to bring the birth rate among adolescents aged 15–19 years to 20.5 births per 1,000 women, or 120 percent of the set target.

"The achievement of the human development target through the Proud Kencana (Family Development, Population, and Family Planning) program in 2021 showed brilliant results," the BKKBN head said.

Despite the achievements, he expressed the hope that Indonesia would not be complacent. Quality population development must be prioritized, he stressed.

Though there may still be many challenges in the future, it is hoped that Indonesia's commitments, brought to the global level through Family Planning 2030, can further reduce the number of unmet needs for family planning in society, he said.

"There are still a number of major challenges in reducing the unmet need for family planning services, which has increased to 18 percent, as well as reducing the prevalence of stunting, which was still at 24.4 percent in 2021," he added.
