The trend of MRT transportation users is extraordinary, up to a 330-percent increase compared to the beginning of the pandemic.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The use of public transportation in Greater Jakarta, or "Jabodetabek" (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi), has shown an upward trend since the COVID-19 pandemic after declining by 95 percent due to mobility restrictions.

The upward trend has been seen in three modes of public transportation: Commuter Line (KRL), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), and bus rapid transit TransJakarta.

“The trend of MRT transportation users is extraordinary, up to a 330-percent increase compared to the beginning of the pandemic,” Head of MRT Jakarta's Commercial and Retail Division Rendy Primartantyo said here on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday (August 10, 2022), the number of daily average MRT passengers has reached 60 thousand, he added.

Based on the MRT Jakarta’s website, in July 2022, as many as 1,884,108 commuters used its services, with the average number of daily passengers reaching 60,778 and train trips touching 7,663.

Meanwhile, the number of Greater Jakarta Commuter Line (KRL) users also showed a gradual increase.

The number of daily commuter train passengers has so far reached 660 thousand, VP of Non-Transport Commercialization at state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Krisna Arianto informed. Before the pandemic, the number of daily KRL users stood at 1.2 million.

Meanwhile, the number of TransJakarta users has increased since the pandemic broke out.

"TransJakarta users are normally 1 million per day; during the PSBB (large-scale social restrictions), the number dropped to 250 thousand per day. As of today, it is already 700 thousand; we are optimistic that it can reach 1 million again," expert staff of the services and development director of PT Transportasi Jakarta, Barnard Wiraharja, explained.

The three modes of mass transportation have also collaborated with a power bank service provider company to install power bank rental machines at one thousand points at Greater Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta stations and stops.
