Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Lestari Moerdijat believes that scouting activities should be a means to prepare the younger generation to become more competitive.

"(It will help youngsters) ideologically, physically, and mentally. The goal is that every child of the country will become highly competitive in future," Moerdijat noted here on Saturday in welcoming the anniversary of the 61st National Scout's Day on August 14, 2022.

The MPR deputy speaker emphasized that various scout activities introduced in elementary school should instill nationalistic values, including preparing the younger generation to have a resilient physique and mentality.

Highlighting data of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Moerdijat noted that the number of young people in Indonesia reached 64.92 million in 2021, or equivalent to 23.90 percent of the total Indonesian population.

Referring to the theme of the 61st National Scout's Day, "Endless Service to Build the National Resilience," the MPR deputy speaker deems it apt to increase the role of scout activities for young people.

According to Moerdijat, nationalistic values can be instilled early on through scouting activities, such as by imparting leadership skills and mental training.

Hence, she expressed optimism that the scout institution would be able to have several activity patterns that can build a highly competitive young generation, in terms of the mental and physical aspects.

Moerdijat believed that Indonesia will become a resilient country if nationalistic values, leadership, and skills are instilled early on among members of the next generation.

Hence, she emphasized that all members of society, especially those of the younger generation, are encouraged to incessantly learn and hone their leadership skills and spirit. The goal is to become the backbone for the country's revival in future.
