Working in a (job) that suits your interests is one of the most valuable life opportunities, and I want all students in Indonesia to experience that.
Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - New university students must enjoy more freedom to learn things according to their interests, Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Makarim has said.

"Moreover, there is the Freedom in Learning and Campus program, which has been running for two years, followed by hundreds of thousands of students throughout Indonesia," he observed at the "Guidance on Campus Activities in the Scientific Tradition (BAKTI) 2022" activity for new students at Andalas University, which was followed online from Padang on Monday.

He said he is confident that new students will not want to miss the opportunity to experience learning outside the campus through internships, independent studies, research projects, humanities projects, entrepreneurship, teaching in remote areas, and domestic or international student exchanges.

His ministry has also urged experts to participate in the practitioner’s program launched this year.

"These experts will come to campus to share knowledge and experiences, which will certainly be an inspiration for students," the minister informed.

He said he is optimistic that the Freedom in Learning and Campus program will help the students discover their interests and talents and determine their future careers.

"Working in a (job) that suits your interests is one of the most valuable life opportunities, and I want all students in Indonesia to experience that," he added.

He said he expects that new students will not waste the opportunity and find out as much information as possible about the program.

"Remember that who we will become in the future is determined by what we do now," Makarim remarked.

Meanwhile, the rector of Andalas University, Yuliandri, welcomed the new students, who were deemed as the best and chosen ones. The total number of new students who participated in the activity was 7,208.

He said that the “Guidance on Campus Activities in the Scientific Tradition (BAKTI) 2022” was themed "Toward a Leading and Dignified Superior Generation through Independent Learning on an Independent Campus.”

“This (activity) aims to provide debriefing to new students so that they can immediately adapt to the campus environment and the education system at Andalas University," he added.
