According to data from the task force, Jakarta contributed the most additional cases at 1,546.
It was followed by West Java, which recorded 639 additional positive cases, Banten with 409 cases, East Java with 232 cases, Central Java with 73 cases, Bali with 72 cases, and North Sumatra with 43 cases.
Meanwhile, the number of patients recovering from COVID-19 in the country increased by 4,978, bringing the total recoveries to 6,112,658.
Based on data from the task force, the most recoveries were reported from Jakarta (2,720), followed by West Java (664), East Java (325 people), Banten (289), Central Java (195), Bali (171), and South Kalimantan (105).
Meanwhile, 19 fatalities were recorded nationwide on Monday, namely four from Jakarta, two from East Java, five from Central Java, three from Bali, one from Riau, one from North Sulawesi, one from Bangka Belitung, and two from North Maluku. Meanwhile, a total of 48,803 people were still undergoing treatment.
In response to the increase in cases, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force asked citizens to continue strengthening the health protocols to curb the spread of the virus considering that Indonesia is still in a pandemic situation.
Coordinator of the expert team and government spokesperson for COVID-19 Handling, Professor Wiku Adisasmito, urged the public to play an active role in preventing a spike in COVID-19 cases by wearing masks and getting vaccinations up to the booster doses.
"Wearing masks and other health protocols combined with booster vaccinations can prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases," he added.
