This is why SOEs not only encourage digital transformation but also encourage the five SOE venture capital companies to become part of this ecosystem
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 2022 BUMN Startup Day aimed to encourage Indonesian young creators to open new job opportunities, State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs/BUMNs) Minister Erick Thohir stated at the event launch here on Tuesday.

"We hold the BUMN Startup Day for a reason. Hence, we must encourage how SOEs can collaborate with the private sector, and most importantly, support Indonesia's young creators, (who are expected to become) new 'job creators' as part of the ecosystem," Thohir said.

The minister noted that encouragement for youngsters to open job opportunities also aims to make Indonesia a digital economy player by 2030.

"This is why SOEs not only encourage digital transformation but also encourage the five SOE venture capital companies to become part of this ecosystem," he stated.

Thohir explained that the SOEs Ministry had earlier launched the Merah Putih Fund, under which the philosophy of nationalism was instilled. However, he emphasized that it does not mean that his side has an anti-foreign approach.

"Why is the Merah Putih Fund present? (That is) as an intervention, so that Indonesian start-up founders can continue to grow in the globalization competition," he remarked.

Furthermore, he said, Indonesia is expected to not solely become a market, so he looked forward to Indonesian start-ups emerging as a new economic foundation in future.

He expressed optimism that start-ups founded by Indonesians would be able to go public on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

The BUMN Startup Day 2022 will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan, on September 27-28, 2022.

This event is divided into two major segments: education and business opportunities.

This two-day event is targeted at start-ups that have entered the early and growth phases, as it is deemed that they not only need investment but also managerial skills.
