Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo highlighted that the national economy has been improving since the economic recovery efforts in 2021.

"There is no reason for us to be pessimistic. Although the IMF and the World Bank expect economies in 66 countries to go bankrupt and collapse, and the world still faces a 'grim' (pessimistic expectation of the) global economy. We still have to be optimistic that we can end 2022 well," Soesatyo stated here on Saturday.

The MPR speaker pointed out that the optimistic view of the national economy arose from the trade balance surplus in 2021 that was maintained this year.

He said based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia's trade balance during the period between January and July 2022 had clocked a surplus of US$29.17 billion.

While closing the First National Deliberation of the National Entrepreneur Network (JAPNAS), in Jakarta on Friday (August 26) evening, Soesatyo highlighted that optimism for Indonesia's economic recovery is on the right track, and the CEIC and Verdana Research data showed that government revenue had increased positively by 51 percent.

The achievement was the highest in the world, surpassing Saudi Arabia that ranked second, with 43 percent, and Brazil in third place, with 30 percent.

According to IMF projections, he said, the GDP of ASEAN countries will reach US$5.2 trillion in 2025.

He affirmed that Indonesia's position, as host of the G20 Presidency, must yield real impacts on the national economy.

According to calculations, the G20 event in Indonesia is expected to contribute US$533 million to the national GDP, increase domestic consumption to Rp1.7 trillion, create 700 thousand new jobs, and absorb 33 thousand workers in the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector.
