Jakarta (ANTARA) - A patriarchal culture cannot prevent women from being equal to men over time, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Bintang Puspayoga, has emphasized.

“(Even) With the patriarchal culture that has taken root in us, nothing can close the opportunity for women to become leaders," she remarked in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.

It is time for Indonesia to end its patriarchal culture in the era of globalization, the minister said.

In this era, women have the same opportunity to achieve their dreams and deserve a life equal to men.

This has also been regulated in the 1945 Constitution, which states that all citizens have the same rights, both men and women.

This has been exemplified by Puan Maharani, who became the first female Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puspayoga noted.

Therefore, all women must start thinking about their future, about studying and getting a better life, and not waste time, the minister added.

According to the head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), Hasto Wardoyo, women have strong competitiveness.

Women can be said to be no less than men, he said.

Moreover, in Indonesia, the proportion of the population in the productive age group is 64 percent, with the ratio of male and female adolescents being 50:50.

Through the “Generation of Planning (Genre)” program, it is hoped that strong and competitive Indonesian teenagers will emerge, especially young women who will later become pregnant and give birth, Wardoyo said.

He further said he is optimistic that Genre will carry out its function properly so that no more stunted babies born are born in the country.

"With this Genre, I am sure that it will give birth to a generation that is healthy, smart, and cheerful and becomes a superior and advanced human resource," Wardoyo said.

The Women in Business Action Council (WiBAC) of the 2022 G20 Business 20 (B20) earlier unveiled the One Global Women Empowerment (OGWE) blueprint for collaboration among stakeholders for supporting women's empowerment efforts.

"In the WiBAC of 2022 G20 B20 dialogue, we have discussed the final document of B20 WiBAC Policy & Action Recommendation as well as the launch of the blueprint for the One Global Women Empowerment platform to advance inclusive, resilient, and sustainable global economic growth by empowering women," chair of WiBAC, Ira Noviarti, said in a statement issued last Thursday.

Many great opportunities could be exploited if women are given equal opportunities to participate in the economic sector, she noted.

In the final document of the Policy & Action Recommendation, the dialogue forum has outlined three key efforts for improving the equal participation of women in the business sector.

The first effort seeks to empower women entrepreneurs by developing an ecosystem that can provide access to financial, legal, and technical assistance to business players.

The second effort is increasing women's digital skills and leadership. Meanwhile, the third effort aims to promote the creation of a just and safe environment for women workers in the informal economy, including in rural areas.
