Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jaleswari Pramodhawardani welcomed the opportunity for cooperation in the humanitarian field between the Indonesian government and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Pramodhawardani highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in providing protection guarantees and humanitarian assistance as a form of the government's commitment to protecting its citizens.

According to a press release received on Friday, Pramodhawardani stated at a meeting with the ICRC here on Thursday that the humanitarian mission values and spirit had become President Joko Widodo's special concern.

"The directives are concretely embodied in policies and programs, such as religious moderation, welfare development, and Indonesia-centric development. The KSP welcomes this cooperation opportunity," she remarked.

According to Pramodhawardani, the eastern part of Indonesia, especially the Papua regions, can become a strategic cooperation opportunity with the presence of regulations that support the acceleration of welfare development in Papua and West Papua, which is in line with ICRC's humanitarian values.

She explained that the ICRC is currently focusing on four working areas in Indonesia: East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.

The committee cooperated closely with ministries and agencies, such as the Ministry of Health, especially in COVID-19 vaccinations.

She emphasized that the ICRC continuously supports the government in responding to humanitarian disasters and conflicts, and its performances had been trusted since a long time.

The deputy assessed that the meeting with ICRC could serve as a starting point for the development of cooperation, especially in the Papua regions, which needed to be discussed further at a more specific meeting later.

It was also explained that the ICRC is a neutral and independent institution engaged in the humanitarian field and respect for international humanitarian law that had existed in Indonesia since 1942.

She noted that the ICRC had been actively discussing and becoming a strategic partner of KSP in the field of human values in indigenous people in Indonesia.

ICRC's Head of Regional Delegation for Indonesia and Timor Leste Alexandre Faite said that several of his party's works in humanitarian values are in line with what KSP had been doing so far. To this end, he assessed that exploring a cooperation opportunity is essential.
