Jakarta (ANTARA) - It is time for the Domestic Workers' Protection Bill (RUU PPRT) to be ratified as discussions on the bill have now stretched for two decades, Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), Jaleswari Pramowardhani, has emphasized.

"We have been waiting for 20 years. It is time for the bill to be passed to protect the rights and obligations of workers, employers, and agents," she said here on Thursday.

In July 2022, the KSP established a task force to accelerate the passage of the bill, she noted.

The task force, which consists of representatives from eight ministries and institutions, promptly sought to identify various issues related to the bill’s development with the Legislative Body of the House of Representatives (DPR).

"We have conducted a konsinyering (a coordination meeting) to equalize the perception of the importance of the PPRT Law and formulate strategic steps to accelerate it," the KSP deputy explained.

oreover, Pramowardhani revealed that the task force, together with representatives of a civil society coalition, held an audience with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin on Wednesday (August 31, 2022).

During the meeting, Amin said that he fully supports the PPRT bill’s passage into law soon, she said.

"The Vice President emphasized the importance of the law protecting domestic workers from rights violations, such as not to be wrongly accused (dizalimi), not to be degraded, and not to be exploited," she added.

On Wednesday, Amin received a visit from the civil society coalition in relation to the enforcement of the Domestic Workers' Protection Bill.

A spokesperson for the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi, said that Amin expects the PPRT Bill to strengthen the values of family and mutual help.

"There is no need to dispute between the values of family and mutual help. This bill strengthens the regulation with those values," Baidlowi added.
