The KSP encourages the fulfillment of optimum facilities and services for residents with disabilities to attain the D-type driving license at their local police offices
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) has urged the Indonesian Police to ensure the provision of optimum facilities and services to help residents with disabilities obtain driving licenses at local police offices.

Residents with disabilities in Indonesia, particularly those using walking aids and operating unmodified vehicles, were eligible for the special type D driving license, KSP chief expert staff Mufti Makarim stated during a coordination meeting between KSP and officers from the Police's Traffic Corps at the Bina Graha Building here, on Thursday.

"The KSP encourages the fulfillment of optimum facilities and services for residents with disabilities to attain the D-type driving license at their local police offices. The government also commends the Police's Traffic Corps that has followed up on the government's commitment to ensure equal access for the disabled community," he said as quoted in a press statement issued the same day.

According to the Traffic Corps' data, at least 104 special driving licenses have been issued to deaf residents this year, he noted.

The official added that the issuance of the special licenses requires recommendations from a Police doctor and a general practitioner affiliated with the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI).

"We need to highlight that the road safety aspect remains our priority. The government continues working to ensure the fulfillment of rights of residents with disabilities while not neglecting the safety of other residents," Makarim said.

Meanwhile, head of the Indonesian Police's Traffic Corps, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi, said that the police force does not discriminate against residents with disabilities and is committed to providing extra protection to them.

"The police are also committed to ensuring inclusive policies and practices to ensure residents with disabilities have the same access as other residents, albeit with some criteria that they must have," he remarked.
