Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two agencies from two different ministries are collaborating to improve the digital competency of teachers in the outermost, underdeveloped, and frontier (3T) areas.

The agencies are the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI) of the Communication and Information Ministry and the Data and Information Technology Center of the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry.

The collaboration has taken the form of technical guidance, including digital literacy classes, Head of BAKTI's telecommunication and information services for the government division Latifa Hanum informed in a statement issued on Friday.

An official from the Data and Information Technology Center, Arief Darmawan, underlined the importance of improving the digital competency of teachers in the current era.

According to the head of Riau Islands’ Teacher Center, Imam Edi Priyanto, bolstering teachers' capacity is necessary to support the implementation of the curriculum in this era of rapid Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development.

"It is important to improve the adaptation capability of the education world to the changing times, specifically amid the ICT development era, that can support the need of teachers and students," he remarked.

In the period from 2015 to 2022, BAKTI has developed 15,878 Internet access service location points across Indonesia, and 394 of them are in Riau Islands. The Internet access service can also be utilized by teachers and students.

Earlier, informatics empowerment director at the Communication and Information Ministry, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, urged the state apparatus (ASN) to learn about and adopt digital technology to improve the quality of public services.

In August, the ministry, along with National Civil Service Agency (BKN), held the "Increasing Digital Technology Competence of State Apparatus of the National Civil Service Agency" training activity.

Pudjianto said he expects that the training materials will help improve ASN’s knowledge, understanding, and competency in digital technology, as well as raise awareness on device and account safety.
