"The President wants to encourage MSMEs to become the locomotives of post-pandemic economic revival. What Pertiwi Semarang is doing is an example, we want to (replicate the initiative in) other areas through other communities so that the expedition of economic recovery can be done," a member of the council, Putri Kus Wisnu Wardani, said after inaugurating the Si Koling Production House in Jatirejo village, Gunungpati district, Semarang city, Central Java, on Friday.
What the chairperson of Pertiwi Semarang, Mia Soedarso, and her staff have done is an effort to revive MSMEs after the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been initiated through various communities, she opined.
She said two-thirds of Indonesia's economy is powered by MSMEs, which also employ 90 percent of the workforce. Thus, the central government, regional governments, financial institutions, and the community must pay special attention to it.
"We propose to the President policies which are appropriate to be (applied) to each sector such as MSMEs, what are the issues for MSMEs to recover after the pandemic," Wardani added.
She said she expected that the various processed kolang-kaling (arenga pinnata) products can penetrate foreign markets and provide economic benefits to MSME actors.
"Kolang-kaling is a food ingredient that can be processed into various kinds of dishes, so this can be an opportunity for us to (assist in efforts to overcome the lack of food) due to the food crisis that is currently happening globally. I also propose that the processed kolang-kaling (be preserved so that it) can last longer so it does not only meet domestic food needs, but also overseas," he said.
Chairperson of Pembina Pertiwi Indonesia Semarang city, Krisseptiana Hendrar Prihadi, who was present at the inauguration with the chairperson of Pertiwi Indonesia, Antarina F. Amir, voiced support for the development of MSMEs in Semarang city, both in training, capital, and product marketing.
