Indonesia's G20 Presidency is a momentum to accelerate inclusive economic recovery by demonstrating Indonesia's leadership in responding to various global challenges.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to discuss efforts to boost economic cooperation between both nations and commence the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Ministerial Meeting.

The bilateral meeting discussed Indonesia's participation in the discussion of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Dispute Settlement (DS 478), the US support for Declaration at the G20 Summit, and the role of Indonesia's G20 Presidency, and the extension of Generalized System of Preference (GSP) in the US Congress, Hartarto noted in a written statement here on Thursday.

"Indonesia's G20 Presidency is a momentum to accelerate inclusive economic recovery by demonstrating Indonesia's leadership in responding to various global challenges," he stated.

Indonesia has met all recommendations and decisions of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) and hoped the US government would support it to settle bilateral trade barriers through the WTO Trade Dispute Settlement DS 478 related to the import of horticultural products, animals and animal products, he remarked.

In addition, Indonesia observed that the ASEAN Summit 2023 can be held along with IPEF. Indonesia is optimistic that the IPEF would strengthen bonds in the Indo-Pacific region that will decide the global economic power in the subsequent decades.

He praised the US for its initiatives to form IPEF that involves 14 countries.

Indonesia attended the IPEF ministerial meeting held in Los Angeles, California, the US, on September 6-9, 2022. During the meeting, Indonesia was represented by the Indonesian ambassador to the US, senior officials of the Foreign Ministry, and the Industry Ministry.

The IPEF ministerial meeting is aimed at discussing and endorsing the ministerial statement at all IPEF pillars that will serve as a document basis for IPEF's further process in the future.

The four pillars of discussion in IPEF are Trade (Fair & Resilience), Supply Chain (Resilience), clean energy, Infrastructure, clean energy, and decarbonization and Tax and Anti-corruption.
