Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Home Affairs Ministry Eko Prasetyanto has called for efforts to strengthen micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to enable them to compete in the global market.

"Efforts to strengthen MSMEs are needed because they are one of the strategies to realize a Golden Indonesia in 2045," he said in a written statement released here on Friday.

The strengthening of MSMEs is an important issue that regional governments must pay attention to, especially since the MSME sector has helped support economic growth amid the pandemic.

Prasetyanto gave the example of positive economic growth experienced by Yogyakarta amid the pandemic, even though, at that time, almost all regions in Indonesia had recorded negative growth.

"Why is Yogyakarta's growth still positive? One of them (the reasons) is because there are strong MSMEs that can support economic growth," he said.

According to him, one of the efforts that regional governments can make to strengthen MSMEs is implementing the Penta-helix strategy. The strategy is deemed fit for supporting MSMEs because it involves many parties.

Such collaboration is needed so that MSMEs can compete in the national as well as global markets. Prasetyanto also appealed to all parties to massively use local products.

“It is important for us to be proud of local products of Indonesia,” he remarked.

Head of the BSKDN's research team, Aang Prasetyo, said the research conducted by his team has determined three main instruments for improving MSMEs, namely building MSME competitiveness, formulating strategies for strengthening MSMEs, and supporting local governments in overcoming problems faced by MSME actors.

"So far, a number of regional governments have answered MSME problems by providing training and assistance, building facilities and infrastructure, and assisting or facilitating halal certification," Prasetyo said.
