The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has appealed to the community, especially in the West Sumatra region and its surroundings, not to panic in case of earthquake occurrence but to increase preparedness and vigilance against potential aftershocks.
A stack of cans can give a sign of earthquake tremors, that can become an early warning tool inside the house.
BNPB also urged residents who live in coastal areas to evacuate to a higher place if an earthquake strikes for more than 30 seconds to escape potential tsunamis.
