"I hope all the people can welcome our guests well. Hopefully, we can be a good host," Head of the Surabaya City Office of Culture, Youth, Sports, and Tourism Wiwiek Widayati remarked in Surabaya, Monday.
Surabaya will host the AFC U-20 Cup Group F tournaments where the Indonesian, Hong Kong, Vietnamese, and Timor Leste teams will compete.
Hence, Widayati said, her side has ensured the readiness of the GBT Stadium as the competition venue in addition to two other stadiums that were used as training places: THOR (Tot Heil Onzer Rebekahst) Field and the Gelora 10 November Stadium.
"The AFC has chosen two training grounds, namely, the THOR field and Gelora 10 November. This means that these two training grounds have been recommended by the AFC," she remarked.
On Sunday (September 11), the teams of Indonesia's U-19 and Hong Kong arrived in Surabaya. Meanwhile, two other teams, Vietnam and Timor Leste were scheduled to arrive on Monday.
Widayati said the GBT Stadium, THOR Field, and Gelora November 10 Stadium are ready to be used for the competition and training activities.
Moreover, she said, the Surabaya City Government has made improvements around and inside the GBT Stadium by strengthening the provider's signal; adding CCTVs, spectator stands, and a press room; increasing access; and handling landfill odors and the directional signs of the GBT Stadium.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the East Java Indonesian Football Provincial Association (PSSI) Amir Burhanuddin assessed that the efforts made so far by the Surabaya City administration in welcoming the AFC U-20 Cup were commendable.
"The Surabaya City Government has met all the requirements of the AFC Cup," he stated.
