Tourism Team Head of the ministry's Directorate of Digital Economy, Sudiono, stated on Tuesday that efforts to encourage digital promotion of tourism villages can improve the welfare of rural communities in Indonesia.
"This is for the village welfare. This promotion will certainly bring (more) visitors to the village, which has an impact on the economy," he stated after the “Adoption of Digital Technology in Priority Tourism Destination Zones” mentoring event held on Tuesday.
The ministry held a mentoring event on the use of digital technology in the Gubugklakah Tourism Village and Ngadas Village in Poncokusumo Sub-district, Malang.
Sudiono explained that tourism village managers, who received the mentoring, were expected to promote their villages through video uploads on social media platforms.
He noted that the Gubugklakah Tourism Village and Ngadas Village were pushed to utilize digital platforms for promotion on account of their huge potential, as the two are close to the priority tourism destination of Mount Bromo.
Sudiono expressed optimism that the mentoring, provided by the ministry, would later result in more tourist visits to the two villages, thereby boosting the locals' income.
"Post-pandemic, we are striving to move the economic wheels of villages," he remarked.
On the other hand, Gubugklakah Village Secretary Puji Laksana stated that the digital technology course was participated by local youths considered to have huge potential in optimizing tourism promotion of the villages through social media.
Furthermore, Laksana said, Gubugklakah Village tourism business players also prioritize the added value of the products offered, such as travel services to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, rafting, and agrotourism.
