"The lesser one-horned rhinoceros is an animal that still exists there (Banten), even though they are a rare (species)," Executive Director of WJWC 2022 Gunawan Tjokro noted at a press conference, here Tuesday.
"We have already coordinated with all parties, and we chose this Javan rhinoceros to become the logo and mascot," he stated.
The logo for WJWC 2022 is simple but meaningful. On the left of the logo is a boy holding a toya, or a stick weapon, which symbolizes one of wushu's techniques, Gun Shu.
Moreover, a curve depicted in the logo illustrates the Javan rhinoceros, also known as Sunda rhinoceros, or lesser one-horned rhinoceros, which can currently only be found in the Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten.
The shape of the WJWC 2022 logo also subtly shows number eight that is the figure of the edition for WJWC 2022, and it also symbolizes eternity and unity.
As for the color, the green to yellow gradation symbolizes youth, freshness, and prosperity.
The image of the Javan rhinoceros is also used for the event's mascot named Wolu. The name Wolu is taken from Javanese, a language spoken by one of Indonesia's major ethnic groups, which means eight.
The WJWC 2022 also has the tagline "Road to Olympic."
"Wushu has not yet entered the Olympic. However, at the junior level, it is already included in the Youth Olympic Games," Secretary General of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PBWI) Ngatino noted.
"However, our goal is to have wushu enter the Olympic. These junior athletes are expected to perform in the Olympic one day," he remarked.
The WJWC 2022 is the second time that the competition is held in Indonesia after it was organized in 2008 in Bali.
As the host, Indonesia is eyeing for success in organizing the event and garnering accolades, Tjokro noted.
