I look forward to Singapore's support for the establishment of the RCEP Secretariat in Jakarta as a supporting unit under the (auspice of the) ASEAN Secretariat.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan and Singaporean Minister of Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong concurred on exploring cooperation potentials in several new sectors, including the green economy.

“Our trade with Singapore runs well and without problems. Singapore is Indonesia's strategic partner," Hasan noted in Nusa Dua, Bali Province, on Wednesday.

The bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Singapore was conducted on the sidelines of the 3rd Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) Meeting as well as the Trade, Investment, and Industry Ministerial Meeting (TIIMM) of G20 held on September 19-23, 2022, in Nusa Dua, Badung District, Bali Province.

The TIIMM is organized under the Sherpa Track as a follow up to the works of the G20 TIIWG that addresses trade and investment issues as well as encourages G20 countries to bolster global trade and investments.

The Indonesian minister noted that in addition to the green economy, other sectors considered to be further explored by the two countries include trade in services.

Hence, he invited Singaporean business players to participate in the 37th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) that will be held on site on October 19-23, 2022, at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), Tangerang District, Banten Province, as well as virtually on October 19 to December 19, 2022.

Furthermore, regarding trade cooperation in the ASEAN, Hasan urged Singapore to support the establishment of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Secretariat.

"I look forward to Singapore's support for the establishment of the RCEP Secretariat in Jakarta as a supporting unit under the (auspice of the) ASEAN Secretariat," he remarked.

Speaking in connection with the matter, the Singaporean minister expressed his support regarding the establishment of RCEP Secretariat.

He also expressed readiness to support Indonesia's role as the Chair of ASEAN in 2023.

In addition, Gan lauded the existing cooperation for the trade of fresh chicken between his country and Indonesia.

"I laud the exports of Indonesia's fresh chicken product to Singapore that support its food security," he stated.
