"If the price of the motorcycle is Rp16 million, in an attractive condition and good battery quality, then this will be very attractive for the community," he remarked while opening the Indonesia Electric Motor Show 2022 (IEMS 2022) here on Wednesday.
Sumadi pressed for collaboration, so that efforts to shift from fuel vehicles to EVs can be carried out faster.
The minister highlighted three steps to be taken to accelerate the development of EVs at more economical prices, with the first being creating batteries, with more a competitive pricing but having a high cruising range.
The second step was producing locally-made motorcycles, while the third measure was increasing the number of battery charging stations.
"If these three things are done systematically, then the price of EVs will be relatively lower," he stated.
Sumadi remarked that with lower prices, the development if EVs is expected to provide economic benefits, wherein there will be a balance between the number of produced vehicles and the number of users.
“I believe electric vehicles have a good future,” he remarked.
He further said that the government had encouraged the acceleration of electric vehicle usage in Indonesia by issuing several regulations and policies.

The minister lauded the collaborative efforts of universities, researchers, and the industrial sector, which also supported the government in creating an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
"Regulations and policies from the government as well as studies and research from universities will be complete when the industrial sector innovates and seizes opportunities for the electric vehicle industry whose potential can already be seen," he remarked.
In particular, he also praised the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for consistently holding electric vehicle exhibitions, such as IEMS.
The IEMS 2022, themed "Strengthening Autonomous Ecosystem," is taking place on September 28-30 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
