Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Chief of Regional Military Command (Kodam) I/Bukit Barisan Major General Achmad Daniel Chardin has deployed more personnel to expedite the recovery of the victims of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake in North Tapanuli District, North Sumatra Province.

"We have added personnel and (logistics) materials to provide optimum assistance at the location affected by the disaster, thus the recovery of the affected community can be accelerated," he stated here on Sunday.

The additional personnel came from the Infantry Battalion (Yonif) 123/Rajawali, North Tapanuli District Military Command (Kodim) 0210/TU, as well as Regional Health Detachment (Denkesyah) Sibolga, he informed.

Meanwhile, the logistics aid included four units of tents, 100 units of bed sheets, two ambulances, three medical oxygen cylinders, three stretchers, as well as medicines.

A number of additional personnel and assistance are also being readied by other military units under the Kodam I/Bukit Barisan. For instance, Yonif 123/Rajawali plans to deploy additional 50 personnel of two Platoon-level Units (SSTs), two tents, 65 velbeds, and 20 chairs.

Meanwhile, Yonif 122/Tombak Sakti will send 75 personnel from one SSK and two trucks.

In addition, Combat Engineer Battalion (Yonzipur) 1/Dhira Dharma will deploy four units of heavy equipment, while Sibolga Transport Supply Detachment (Denbekang) will send a public kitchen team consisting of 10 people.

The National Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) earlier said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 rattled North Tapanuli District, North Sumatra Province, on Saturday (October 1, 2022) at 02.28 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) at 2.13 degrees north latitude and 98.89 degrees east longitude.

The North Tapanuli District Government stated that the disaster claimed one live and injured 26 people.

The quake also damaged 872 houses, 60 worship places, as well as 17 educational facilities.
