Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry collaborated with some agencies to organize digital literacy training for people with disabilities.

"This is an effort to increase the digital literacy index for vulnerable groups, particularly people with disabilities," Director of Information Empowerment at the Communication and Informatics Ministry Dr Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto said in a written statement here, Sunday.

The ministry has aired a disability podcast class program using four main pillars of digital literacy materials. The four are digital skills, digital ethics, digital culture, and digital security.

Deputy Dean I of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, the State University of Surabaya Dr Wiwik Sri Utami, MP said that podcasts could be used by people with disabilities to be more productive.

“Nowadays everything is digital, social media has become a part of all of us. Podcasts are one of the new media that we can use to be more productive and create useful content,” Utama said.

The Deputy Chancellor for Planning and Cooperation at the State University of Surabaya, Dr Sujarwanto MPd, expected that there would be more collaboration to hold events which were friendly towards people with disability.

“Activities like this are very important to support Indonesia to be more inclusive, digitally literate, and more digitally proficient. Hopefully this activity can provide a new perspective," he elaborated.

The disability podcast class activity is included in the series of activities of the program which offered digital literacy to 50 million Indonesians until 2024, titled Indonesia Becoming Digitally Advanced (Indonesia Makin Cakap Digital) initiated by the ministry and its relevant stakeholders.
