Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has increased the quotas of subsidized fuel, Pertalite gasoline and Solar diesel, effective from October 1, 2022, to meet the community's needs until the end of the year.

The quota of Pertalite has been increased by 6.86 million kiloliters, from the initial quota of 23.05 million kiloliters. The quota for Solar has been increased by 2.73 million kiloliters, from the initial quota of 15.1 million kiloliters for 2022.

"With the improving economic conditions after (the) COVID-19 (pandemic), the consumption of fuel, both Solar and Petalite, spiked, so if not increased, the quota will run out in mid-October 2022 for Pertalite and in mid-November for Solar," Head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), Erika Retnowati, noted in an official statement here on Tuesday.

Despite the quotas being increased, the dissemination of information regarding the on-target use of subsidized fuel must continue to be intensified, she emphasized.

Retnowati highlighted that subsidized fuel is only targeted to be bought by eligible consumers. Hence, those who can afford it are urged to buy non-subsidized fuel instead.

The increase in subsidized fuel quota was welcomed by PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, a commercial and trading sub-holding of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, which oversees distributing subsidized fuels.

"Of course, this is good news for the community, (since they) no longer need to worry about Pertalite and Solar availability. This increase is expected to meet the needs of the community until the end of the year," Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Irto Ginting stated.

As of September 30, 2022, the realization of subsidized Solar diesel had reached 85.81 percent, or 12.96 million kiloliters, from a quota of 15.10 million kiloliters. As for subsidized Pertalite gasoline, the realization has reached 95.32 percent, or 21.97 million kiloliters, from a quota of 23.05 million kiloliters.
