Those are obligations enacted by our law, particularly on ticket management and appropriate accommodation and access for family supportersJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) urged the Joint Independent Fact-finding Team (TGIPF) formed for the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy to offer solutions to ensure child safety during football matches and mass events.
"I think it is important that the TGIPF recommendations also include issues on child safety and protection in football stadiums," KPAI's Supervision, Monitoring, and Evaluation Division Head Jasra Putra told ANTARA here, Wednesday.
The agency department head said that the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy highlighted the urgent need to change procedures for family supporters, who brought their children to observe a football match at a stadium.
Parents are keen to make their children happy and motivated by taking them to the stadium to observe the sport they like and football athletes they admire, he affirmed.
"There must be a thorough awareness from the fact-finding team (to conceive solutions) to ensure young football supporters can safely channel their love to the (game of) football (at the stadium)," Putra noted.
Child-safe stadiums could be achieved by ensuring they are free from cigarettes and alcohol, gambling, drugs, and pornoaction, which can negatively affect children, who visit the stadium only to watch their beloved team play, he expounded.
Moreover, stadium operators must provide facilities for families with infants, such as maternity rooms for breastfeeding, toilets equipped with facilities to change baby diapers, and playrooms for children that could be converted into a makeshift medical room during emergencies, the department head stated.
"Those are obligations enacted by our law, particularly on ticket management and appropriate accommodation and access for family supporters," Putra stated.
A total of 33 children are among the 131 people killed in the Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy in Malang, East Java, on Saturday (October 1). To investigate the tragedy, the government, on Monday (October 3), established an independent joint fact-finding team chaired by Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD.
