The Communication and Informatics Ministry also continues to coordinate with all cellular operators to maintain optimal download speed stability and service quality during the G20 Summit.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo) is improving the quality of the telecommunications network for the implementation of the G20 Summit, including by preparing a backup network for the event.
"To support the successful implementation of the G20 Summit in Bali, Kominfo has bolstered the telecommunications infrastructure by increasing 4G cellular Internet speeds, facilitating 5G network expansion, rearranging aerial cables, and preparing backup networks," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate said during a coordination meeting on the implementation of the summit, according to a statement received here on Wednesday.
State-run cellular operator Telkomsel has improved the download speed of its 4G networks to 100 megabits per second (Mbps) -- about four times faster than the national average download speed -- in a number of areas in Bali, he informed.
In addition, the operator has readied 5G networks with download speeds of up to 180–200 Mbps on the current existing spectrum of 3.4–3.6 gigahertz (GHz) as well as up to 500Mbps on the 26GHz spectrum, which is still being tested.
The parent company of Telkomsel, Telkom Group, has also built 24 5G base transceiver station (BTS) towers to support the use of 5G networks in the Nusa Dua area and I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
"The Communication and Informatics Ministry also continues to coordinate with all cellular operators to maintain optimal download speed stability and service quality during the G20 Summit," Plate said.
The operators completed the rearrangement of aerial cables along the exit gate of Nusa Dua Toll to the Apurva Kempinski Hotel, with a total length of 6.67 kilometers (km), on September 19, 2022.
The ministry and telecommunications service providers have also prepared a backup network to anticipate connectivity disruptions during the summit, which is scheduled to be held in Bali on November 15–16.
They have readied a fiber optic backup network using several Sea Cable Communication Systems (SKKL), which are connected to the Bali area, namely SKKL Bali-Surabaya, SKKL Bali-Manado, SKKL Jember-Denpasar, SKKL IRU Muncar-Negara, SKKL Bali-Lombok, as well as SKKL Denpasar-Mataram.
